The forms of new media that I use daily are email, various online Learning Management Systems, inspirational websites.
New social media has influenced my perspective of events through Facebook, online journals and news blogs. I am still "old school" - I still watch the news in the morning and I watch the evening news. I do not have an Instagram or Twitter account - I think that they interesting but not necessary.
I find that much of the political media are negative and the they have a negative influence on society. I look for balanced media coverage especially in the political arena. I find that this is not the case in recent years.
The positive influential websites for me are inspiration and self-help. It is wonderful to have, at my finger tips, websites that guide, direct and help me through my life's journey.
What are some of the inspirational websites you like? I am always looking for new fun websites to go to.
ReplyDeleteI still like watching the news too, even if they are talking about topics that I have already gone to social media sites and read about. There is something authentic about watching them report the stories on television and I enjoy seeing visuals to go with the stories. I always wonder how much longer news will be on the air, because social media and the internet are taking over.
I also consider myself "old school" but with a modern touch. I am always on Facebook catching up with my friends and family around the globe. Without it, I honestly don't think I would be as close to them as I am now. I also use Twitter, but only to keep on top of what my celebs are doing...it's my guilty pleasure :). Other than that, I agree that Twitter is not necessary. I have less than 20 followers and am fine with that because I rarely tweet anything important. If I ever get a job where I need to use it, I can, but until then it's just a hobby.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that Instagram is pretty unnecessary. I don't know how others are able to create memes and such on it, but I use it to post photos. I can do that with other sites as well, so I may end up deleting my Instagram.
Hi Andrea and Desiree - I like Oprah's Life Class http://www.oprah.com/app/oprahs-lifeclass.html.
ReplyDeletethe life lessons are invaluable. I also like inspirational quotes - I get them from Beliefnet.com http://www.beliefnet.com/Inspiration/index.aspx. My most favorite quote that inspires me everyday is Education is the most powerful tool that you can use to change the world - Nelson Mandela.
I do not disparage websites such as Instagram of Twitter, I just do not want to be attached to all of those different types of new media personally.

ReplyDeleteHi, Carole,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your blog. I also enjoy self-help websites. Although, I hardly ever cook, I love gathering information about creative cooking ideas. Google+ has the creative ideas sites that sends ideas about everything right to my email. Just yesterday, it sent me a picture of a miniature house made of vegetables. I am sure that it has less calories than a gingerbread house. Carole, what is the most interesting idea that you have gotten from the websites that you enjoy?
